What may feel scary or confusing

Do not promise there will be no pain when the actual procedure is unknown. Say truthfully that you will ask, stay nearby when permitted, and tell the team about discomfort.

For adults: leave room for the child's view

Praise more than stillness or absence of tears. Also value asking questions, signaling a pause, reporting pain, and trying again when ready.
