Hookhook and the Dentist's Little Mirror

At the Rim Dao health center, Hookhook saw the dentist holding a tiny round mirror. Light flashed from it onto the wall, and Hookhook wondered if it could steal a tooth's shadow. The little owl clamped the beak shut and hugged the satchel.

The dentist put the tool down and demonstrated it on a tooth model. The mirror did not pull anything away; it helped reveal the back of a tooth. Hookhook held it with a wingtip and became curious about the reversed view.

They agreed that if Hookhook raised the left wing, the dentist would stop at once. The dentist described every step and let Hookhook choose upper or lower teeth first. Lower teeth seemed easier to follow in the mirror.

During the check, Hookhook raised a wing when the light felt too bright. The dentist stopped and tilted the lamp away. Hookhook took a breath and was the one to say, “Ready,” before the check continued.

Before leaving, Hookhook used the mirror to find a groove that needed more brushing. No tooth shadow had disappeared. Instead, Hookhook had gained a tiny map for caring for that smile, and the next visit felt much less frightening.
