Terms of use

Last updated: August 10, 2026

These terms explain Hoot Tales' rights in its work and how readers may use the content. By accessing or using this website, you agree to follow these terms.

Hoot Tales works

Stories identified as original works, newly written and retold text, translations, original characters, selection and sequencing, composition, presentation, graphics, marks, and website elements are works or assets in which Hoot Tales reserves all rights available under applicable law, unless a story page states otherwise.

Adaptations of public-domain works

A source work or plot identified as public domain remains public domain, and Hoot Tales does not claim rights in that underlying work. Hoot Tales reserves rights in its newly written retelling, translation, illustrations created for its edition, and its selection, sequencing, composition, and presentation. Check each story's source and license information.

Permitted use

Parents, guardians, and teachers may read or display stories directly from this website to children at home or in a classroom at no charge, and may share links that lead back to the original Hoot Tales page. This permission is limited to personal or non-commercial teaching use and does not permit downloading, reproducing, distributing, or republishing a complete story or any illustration.

Uses requiring prior permission

You may not copy, bulk-download, reproduce, adapt, retranslate, distribute, sell, rent, use for model training, or republish a complete story or any illustration on another website, app, book, commercial teaching resource, or social-media account. You may not remove, crop, obscure, or alter a copyright notice, mark, or watermark, or use Hoot Tales names, marks, or characters in a way that suggests endorsement or affiliation.

Permission and licensing

Written permission is required in advance to publish, adapt, translate, distribute, use illustrations, or use content in a commercial product or activity. When contacting us below, include the story title, the content or image requested, purpose, distribution channels, territories, term, and estimated audience.

Use of AI-generated art

Most illustrations are made with AI tools and are directed, selected, edited, sequenced, and reviewed by Hoot Tales. The copyright status of AI-generated elements may differ by jurisdiction. Publication on this website does not grant permission to reuse an image, and Hoot Tales reserves all rights it lawfully holds in the selection, editing, and arrangement of the work.

Protection and records

Copyright in eligible work arises automatically when the work is created, without registration. A © notice is not a condition of protection but makes the rights claim clear. Hoot Tales keeps source files, revision history, publication dates, and supporting records as evidence where needed.

Limitation of liability

This site is provided "as is" without warranty that content is complete or error-free, and we're not liable for any damages arising from its use.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time. If we do, we'll update the date at the top of this page.
