One Bowl of Songkran Wishes
On Songkran morning, Rim Dao had one jar of water because the community also needed water for drinking and cooking. Jibjib raised a bowl to splash, but Hookhook saw Grandma Chan step away from the spray and Tuam hug a dry notebook.
Hookhook asked how each friend wished to receive a blessing. Three picture cards offered a tiny drop, a gentle cool-cloth touch, or words without water. Grandma Chan chose words, Tuam chose the cloth, and Jibjib chose a drop.
The new game used one bowl filled only halfway. The carrier followed flower marks, stopped to read a friend's card, and asked again before pouring. Nobody threw water or chased anyone, and anyone could change their mind at once.
A breeze flipped Tuam's card facedown. Hookhook nearly guessed it meant water, then asked again. Tuam still wanted the cool cloth, so Hookhook passed it over for Tuam to touch to the shell, adding jasmine without pouring water.
When the game ended, the jar still held water for the kitchen. Everyone had received a blessing in the chosen way. Grandma Chan said the day felt neither quiet nor dry: asking and laughing had refreshed the whole courtyard.
Moral of the story
Traditions grow kinder when we value water and ask before touching or wetting anyone.
