Pim and the Colours of a Rainy Day

Pim had packed her yellow hat and toy binoculars for a trip to the park with her friend. Then big raindrops began tapping the window, and Mother said they could not go out today.

Pim pushed her hat onto the table and went quiet. Her friend Khim called to suggest drawing, but Pim only said, “I do not want to do anything,” and ended the call.

Mother placed three sheets of paper beside Pim and asked what color her heart felt today. Pim painted the first sheet gray. “I am disappointed,” she said. Then she painted blue. “And lonely.”

Pim called Khim back and told her how she felt. Khim did not laugh. She said she felt disappointed too. So they planned to draw their dream parks from either side of the screen.

When the rain eased, Pim placed her gray picture, blue picture, and colorful park picture in a row. A rainy day, she saw, did not have only one color. Tomorrow, she and Khim could still visit the park together.
