The Fox and the Stork

The fox invited his neighbor the stork to dinner at his home. The stork was delighted to be invited and dressed up nicely for the occasion.

The fox served soup on a flat, shallow plate. He lapped it up happily, but the stork could only dip the tip of her long beak into the dish — she couldn't drink a single drop.

The hungry stork went home without eating a bite. She wasn't angry, but she decided it was time to teach her friend a gentle lesson.

A few days later, the stork invited the fox to dinner at her home. This time, the food was served in a tall, narrow-necked jar. The stork used her long beak to eat comfortably.

The fox tried and tried to poke his nose into the jar but could never reach the food inside. At last he understood exactly how the stork had felt that day, and he felt sorry for his trick. From then on, the two friends always treated each other with honesty and care.

However we treat others tends to come back to us in kind. Be considerate and put yourself in another's shoes, rather than tricking or deceiving a friend.
