The Lantern Fish Who Lit the Deep Sea

Deep in the dark blue sea, a small lantern fish had a glowing blue-green light shining from an antenna above her head. The other fish always swam away, calling her a scary, strange creature.

The lantern fish felt lonely and sad, so she often hid quietly in the crevices of a rock, alone, never brave enough to swim over and play with the other bright, colorful fish.

One day, a school of colorful fish accidentally swam into a pitch-dark underwater cave, unable to see any way out at all. They bumped into each other in a panic.

The lantern fish heard their cries for help and gathered her courage to swim into the dark cave. The blue-green light from her head shone the way, showing the school of fish a clear path out.

The school of fish followed the lantern fish's light and made it safely out of the dark cave, every single one of them. From that day on, they all thanked and admired her special light. The lantern fish gained many friends and grew far more proud of herself.
