The Crab Who Wanted to Walk Straight
⏱ 3–5 min
A little chameleon lived in a colorful forest. She could change her skin color anytime to match her surroundings — some days leaf green, some days branch brown, some days the bright yellow of a flower.
The other forest animals asked her, "So which color do you like best? What's your real color?" The little chameleon paused, unable to answer, and grew confused and worried about who she truly was.
She tried changing colors every day looking for an answer — bright pink one day, blue-purple the next — but she still couldn't feel which color was truly hers.
A wise owl living in a great tree told the little chameleon, "Your skin can change, that's true. But your brave, kind, curious heart has never changed at all — that is who you truly are."
The little chameleon smiled, understanding at last. From that day on, she enjoyed changing colors freely without worry, knowing that no matter what color her skin became, the heart inside her was always the same little chameleon.
No matter how the outside changes, what matters most is knowing and loving who we truly are on the inside.
A little chameleon changes color so often that she's no longer sure which color is truly her own, until she learns that no matter what color she becomes, the heart inside her always stays the same.
