Maya and the Three Water Drops
⏱ 3–5 min
After dinner, a bowl of rice remained. Nara started to throw it away, but Dad said, “It is still good. We can cool it quickly and use it tomorrow.” Together they spooned it into a shallow container and refrigerated it.
The next morning, Nara checked the food picture list on the fridge first. Dad reheated the rice all the way through, then let it cool enough to handle. With his help, Nara mixed in egg, greens, and carrot.
Nara pressed the mixture into a star mold on a tray. Dad handled the hot pan. The first star broke in two, but Nara added a little more egg and pressed the next one more firmly.
Soon golden rice stars filled a plate. Nara arranged cucumber in a ring and tasted the broken piece first. “It is not a perfect shape, but it tastes just as good!” she laughed.
Nara and Dad shared two just-right breakfast plates and noted that they would cook less rice next time. The leftover box was empty, not because they ate too much, but because they had planned to use just enough.
Planning, safe storage, and creativity help us value food that is still good.
When rice remains after dinner, Nara helps Dad store it safely and turns yesterday's bowl into delicious star-shaped breakfast bites.
