Maya and the Three Water Drops

On a hot morning, Maya left the tap running while she brushed her teeth. Water splashed away until Grandpa showed her the rain jar, with only a little water left at the bottom.

Maya drew three water drops on a small sign. The first reminded her to turn off the tap while brushing. The second reminded her to catch vegetable-rinsing water in a basin.

The third drop led Maya and Grandpa to water the basil with the saved rinsing water instead of fresh water. The soil became just moist enough, and a butterfly still visited the flowers.

Clouds gathered that afternoon. Maya helped Grandpa guide clean rain from the roof into the jar. When the shower ended, they covered it to keep out leaves and mosquitoes.

By evening, the jar held more water and the family had used only what they needed. Maya hung her three-drop sign beside the tap, because many tiny habits could add up to a great deal of water.

Every drop matters, and everyone can save water through small everyday choices.
