Mali and Grandma's Mango Sticky Rice
⏱ 3–5 min
After the rain, Niran walked to the lotus pond at the end of his lane. A pink lotus was opening in the morning light, and he thought his mother would love it at home.
Niran reached toward the lotus stem, then heard a small splash beneath a leaf. Tiny tadpoles were swimming in its shade. He stopped and sat quietly to watch.
Uncle Phot, who cared for the pond, explained that lotus plants shelter insects and shade water animals. Niran asked how he could make a gift for his mother without picking the flower.
Uncle Phot handed him a net. Niran carefully collected a floating plastic bag without touching the lotus plants, then drew the flower exactly as he had observed it.
That evening, Niran gave his drawing to his mother. She placed it by the window and said it was beautiful because it helped their home remember the living pond. Niran promised to help care for it.
Loving nature begins with gentle observation and care.
Niran wants to pick a pink lotus for his mother, but learns to admire and care for the pond without disturbing its living things.
