Hookhook's Fluffy-Wing Storm

Hookhook and Jibjib built a tower from dry banana leaves and seed pods. Just as the leaf star reached the top, Jibjib accidentally bumped the base. The tower collapsed before Hookhook's eyes.

Hookhook's chest grew hot, feathers puffed, and wings beat hard. The fluffy-wing storm blew the pieces even farther away. Jibjib quietly stepped back, while the messy courtyard made Hookhook angrier still.

A paper pinwheel spun wildly, showing that those wings were not ready to rebuild. Hookhook folded both wings close, pressed feet to the ground, and said, “I am angry because this tower matters to me.” The pinwheel slowed.

Hookhook told Jibjib, “I am sorry I scattered everything,” and asked how they might continue. Jibjib suggested a wider base. They gathered leaves from opposite sides and left gaps for wind to pass through.

The new tower was shorter but steadier, and the leaf star returned to the top. Hookhook still remembered the crash, but anger did not have to create a storm each time. Now there was a way to pause before the wings blew.

Anger tells us that something matters, but we can still choose how to care for ourselves and repair what happened.
