Hookhook and the Ink Mark on Tuam's Map

Tuam had spent days drawing a map of paths around the canal. Hookhook borrowed it to add a tamarind tree, but a wingtip knocked the ink bottle. A blue drop landed in the middle of the map's bridge.

Afraid Tuam would be upset, Hookhook rubbed gently with a damp cloth. The ink spread and the paper began to soften. Hookhook stopped, set the cloth down, and left everything in place without hiding the map.

When Tuam arrived, Hookhook explained everything, from bumping the bottle to the failed wiping. “I am sorry. I will not repair more until you tell me what you want.” Tuam was still sad and asked for quiet time first.

Later, Tuam chose to cut out the damaged bridge and attach fresh paper. Hookhook offered to redraw it, but Tuam wanted to draw the route. Hookhook only held the ruler and prepared paper as requested.

The seam remained visible, but the map gained a lift-up bridge revealing a picture beneath. Tuam still disliked the spill, yet trusted Hookhook more for ending the hiding and letting the map's owner choose the repair.

A meaningful apology includes telling the truth, stopping further harm, and listening to how the owner wants things repaired.
