Hookhook's Map of Night Sounds

On a windy night, Hookhook heard “knock...click...scratch” beneath the hollow. One sound came from the window, one from behind a cabinet, and one from the stairs. Hookhook immediately imagined three monsters.

Instead of going downstairs alone, Hookhook called Father Owl. Together they carried a lamp and drew a room map. Reachable places could be checked together; the dark wet space beneath the stairs was an adult-only stop.

The window scratch came from tamarind leaves. The cabinet knock was a dry seed rolling in a basket. Hookhook drew a leaf and seed on the map. Two fears shrank, but the stair sound remained.

Father Owl found a wet branch pulling against a loose lamp plug beneath the stairs. He switched off that circuit before touching anything and moved the branch safely while Hookhook watched from their agreed waiting line.

The sound map stayed beside the bed. The next time a noise came, Hookhook listened for whether it matched a known sound. If it did not, calling an adult was always allowed. Courage did not mean investigating everything alone.
