The Boy and the Magic Drum
⏱ 3–5 min
When the first rain of the monsoon season fell on the big pond, every frog there joyfully sang together to welcome it, their ribbits echoing joyfully across the fields all evening.
A small lime-green frog wanted very much to join his friends' song, but his voice was strangely high-pitched compared to the other frogs' deep croaks. He never dared open his mouth to sing, hiding instead under a lily pad.
One night the rain fell especially hard, and the frog chorus began to sound flat and lifeless. The little frog peeked out, watching his friends sing, wanting so badly to join them.
An old frog sitting on a large lily pad noticed the little frog hiding and called out warmly, "Try singing your own voice — don't be afraid, your voice matters too." The little frog gathered his courage and let out his high-pitched voice for the very first time.
The little frog's clear high voice blended perfectly with the other frogs' deep croaks, making that night's rain song more beautiful than ever before. The little frog smiled with pride, and joined the frog orchestra every night from then on.
Daring to be truly yourself, even when you're different from others, can make everything more beautiful.
When the first rain of the season arrives, a little frog who never dared sing along with his friends finally gathers the courage to sing his own song for the first time — and discovers his different voice makes the frog orchestra sound even more beautiful.
