Taeng and the Book Hospital

Taeng found her favorite picture book lying open beneath a shelf. Its cover was bent, one page was torn, and crumbs clung to a corner. She lifted it as gently as a tiny patient.

The librarian taught Taeng to check each problem: brush away crumbs, flatten the cover beneath heavy books, and—with an adult's help—place acid-free repair tape over the tear.

Taeng hurried and used a strip that was too long, making the page pull tight. She stopped, slowly lifted it with guidance, and measured a new piece that fit the tear.

Friends brought one book each. Some only needed clean hands, some needed jackets, and badly damaged books went to an expert. Taeng made picture signs showing how to care for them.

When the favorite book returned to its shelf, everyone turned its pages gently. The Book Hospital opened every Friday, but its patients grew fewer because the children learned to care before books got hurt.
