La fourmi et la colombe
Une fourmi descendit dans un ruisseau pour boire un verre d'eau et tomba accidentellement. Le courant la balaya, et elle allait se noyer.
Une colombe perchée sur une branche voisine vit ce qui s'est passé. Elle a rapidement arraché une feuille et l'a jetée dans l'eau. La fourmi a grimpé sur elle et a flotté en toute sécurité jusqu'à la rive.
La fourmi était profondément reconnaissante et remerciait chaleureusement la colombe. Dès ce jour, les deux se sont rapprochés.
Peu après, un chasseur est venu avec un filet, espérant attraper la colombe dans le même arbre. Il était sur le point de jeter le filet sur elle.
La fourmi vit ce qui se passait et rampa rapidement pour mordre le pied du chasseur. Il cria dans la douleur et laissa tomber le filet, et la colombe s'envola en sécurité juste à temps. Les deux amis s'étaient sauvés la vie, et ils demeurèrent les meilleurs amis pour toujours après.

Know before reading
The ant nearly drowns, and a hunter intends to harm the dove. The ant bites the hunter. Children sensitive to animal danger may want to know that both animals are safe at the end.

About 10 minutesMaterials: shallow bowl, a little water, leaves or paper, large non-swallowable toy
- Place the toy by the bowl and choose a material to carry it across.
- Predict which material will float and hold the toy.
- Test with adult supervision and compare which method is safest.
What may feel scary or confusing
Separate the ant's action from real life. A child should not confront an armed person; move away and alert a trusted adult or emergency service.
For adults: leave room for the child's view
Do not conclude that every favor creates a debt. Distinguish gratitude, freely chosen help, and pressure to repay someone.
