The Pond Friends and the Plastic Bag
⏱ 3–6 min
In a farming village beside a green rice field lived a young buffalo named Dam who disliked plowing more than anything. Every morning it would sneak off to nap under a big shady tree, letting the other buffaloes do the plowing instead.
That year the rains came late, and the fields began to crack and dry out. Farmers rushed to plow and dig irrigation channels before the crops were lost. Every buffalo in the village had to work hard together.
Dam saw its friends panting with exhaustion and still stayed hidden under the tree. But when it saw the farmer's small child crying, afraid the rice would all die, Dam's heart suddenly ached.
Dam sprang up at once and ran to the field, joining the others to pull a plow with all its strength. It plowed alongside its friends without stopping, tired and hot as it was, until the work was finished just before sunset.
When the season's first rain fell that night, the freshly plowed field soaked it up perfectly, and the rice seedlings sprang up green and lush again. Dam learned that working together made everything come together faster and more beautifully than it ever imagined.
When everyone works together, even the hardest tasks become easier and get done faster.
A young buffalo doesn't want to help plow the fields like the other buffaloes, until a drought teaches it the value of working together.
